10 Questions with Alexa Verink

Alexa will be a senior this fall at Lincoln-Way Central. She is a member of the Central Girls Volleyball team.
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Before a game usually, I'm just fine warming up with the team. It's kinda nice to bond with everyone and talk about strategy and everything. I don't really do anything weird or anything.
Who is your favorite athlete?
Just because of volleyball, I'm a big fan of Carrie Walsh and Misty May.
What is in your CD player or on your iPod?
That's hard; I've got a lot of different stuff. I'm into alternative, punk and pop-punk. I'm going to a Cute is What We Aim For concert, so I'll say they're big for me right now.
What is your favorite thing to do when you're not playing volleyball?
I'm going to sound like a geek here, but I really like reading and stuff. Books are big for me.
What would be your ultimate sports highlight?
I'm going to say last year when we were playing Joliet Township and it didn't seem like a big game, but then Ellen Sawin went down with a fractured ankle. So we had some people step in and we ended up winning the game.
What is something not many people know about you?
I'm obsessed with frogs. I really like frogs; they're really cool.
What is one thing that you can't live without?
Ice cream. If there was nothing else I'd eat in the world it would be ice cream. I hear food is pretty important, too, so ice cream.
What are you doing next year?
My two big schools are DePaul and Carnige-Mellon right now. I've kind of shut everyone else out.
What is your dream job?
I really want to be a graphic designer, but in the marketing business. Like in advertising or stuff like that.
Where is your volleyball career going from here?
After this year, volleyball will be for fun. It's to stay in shape and its fun for me.
