Green Food and Produce set to open Feb. 24

Grocery store to feature organic food

It's been a long time coming, but retailers in the Wolf Crossing retail center will now see a boost as new grocer Green Food and Produce will open its doors Wednesday, Feb. 24, as the new anchor store.

The new grocer will fill the vacancy left by Frank & Angie Simply Fresh Foods at 11333 W. 159th St. in Orland Park.

Owner Margaret Antonik, who operates two Deli For You locations in Prospect Heights and Norridge, said that her store will not be like the former tenant.

"We're not going to be another Bobak's," she said. "There will be an ethnic section with Greek, Asian and Italian foods, as well as Polish and Eastern European. We are going to try and cater to the local customers. We will have everything."

Antonik said she was in the financial business for 20 years and worked with her husband building houses. With the change in the economy, she wanted a challenge.

"I was looking for a new opportunity and I like sales and numbers," she said. "I always say, 'the sky's the limit.'"

Antonik said she plans to take a risk by adding organic food to her grocery store.

"I want to make it affordable for people," she said.

A restaurant will also be opened inside the grocery store that Antonik said will include a family-style buffet as well as a separate sushi station.

The bakery is something Antonik is extremely proud of.

"We are using old European recipes and traditional recipes from my grandma and my baker's family," she said. "We'll be making homemade pastries and cakes."

The grocer will also carry liquor, but Antonik said their main focus will be wine.

"We'll have a good selection," she said.

Antonik said the Orland Park location was a natural choice.

"The store was ready and everything was already here," she said. "People will be able to buy everything here."

Green Food and Produce will be open from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. seven days a week.
