Getting four first-quarter goals, the Lincoln-Way Lacrosse Club pushed its season record to 2-0 by beating Homewood-Flossmoor 8-3 on April 12 at East.

"We lost to this team last year," Lincoln-Way Lacrosse Club coach Todd Hyatt said. "They thought it would be an easy win and got beat. I wouldn't let them think that way."

"I'm pretty happy with how [we] played.," Hyatt said of his team.

He said Lincoln-Way communicated well and moved the ball often, although he would like to see them move it more.

Senior Matt Daum got Lincoln-Way on the scoreboard a little over two minutes into the game. A minute later, Derek Lear found the net to push the score to 2-0. Daum got his second goal of the game with 34 seconds left in the first quarter. Austin Hyatt took the ensuing faceoff right though up the middle of the field and scored 11 seconds later. Daum got the hat trick when he scored 13 just seconds into the second quarter and Hyatt scored his second with 41 seconds left in the half.

H-F finally got onto the board two minutes into the third quarter, to cut the lead to 6-1. Paul Ilg scored four minutes later to get it back to a six goal lead. In the fourth quarter, Hyatt got his third goal.

Lincoln-Way was led by senior Daum and freshman Hyatt.

Daum will continue playing lacrosse as a member of the team at the University of Illinois.

Lacrosse will be an Illinois High School Association-sanctioned sport in the 2010-11 school year, bringing a playoff series and the crowning of an official, state champion.

The Lincoln-Way Area lacrosse team is in its second high school season and fourth youth season.
