My mom, the zookeeper

What do your parents do for a living? Maybe they are nurses, doctors, or even scientists. My mom is different. She has the coolest job on the planet — she's a zookeeper! Now that may not sound like the coolest job ever, but if you know what she does, it definitely is. It's not just about checking on the animals. She has to do more. She gets to feed them, take care of them, and even bathe them! She also gets to interact with animals that a normal person only dreams about. She's taken care of seals and sea lions (they are two different animals), hawks, and even cheetahs. But her favorite animal of all time is a hawk named Storm.
My family and I used to live in Baltimore. My mom worked at the zoo there, and she took care of Storm. She was like my mom's best friend. My mom had her before I was born. There is even a picture of Storm sitting on my mom's stomach right before I was born.
Mom has made a lot more animal friends at the Brookfield Zoo. Every time we go there, she knows all of the animals' names. The animals always come over whenever they hear my mom's voice. We all love it at the zoo, even my sister and me. Awhile back, my mom was on a TV show called Kindertime. She was called "Miss Meg, the Zoo Lady," and she taught kids all about animals. She was also in a book called "Cool Careers for Girls with Animals." She had an article all about her days at the zoo.
But being a zookeeper isn't all about fun and games. She's had some pretty close calls. One time while working in the cheetah exhibit, she got bit by a spider. She had to go to the hospital to get treated. She's fine now, but she still is afraid of spiders.
My mom also tells some very funny stories of her experiences as a zookeeper. When we were in Baltimore before I was born, there was a howler monkey named Screamer who stole everything. They always tried to get stuff back from her. They even gave her Sour Warheads to try and get stuff back! Now after reading this, don't you think being a zookeeper is a pretty cool job?
